Lucknow: Uttarpradesh needs a skin bank to treat about 25,000 burn cases which are annually reported in hospitals across the state.
The head of the plastic surgery department, AIIMS Delhi, Dr. Manish Singhal emphasized this need at a seminar titled ‘Burn Update’. Such banks are functional in Maharashtra and Delhi.
The head of the plastic surgery department, SGPGI, Lucknow, Dr. Rajiv Agarwal said that the skin bank can be created by a cadaveric donation and the donated skin can be stored for up to six months. The skin matching before transplantation is not required.
