Pune: At least 15 people were reported to be killed as a portion of the compound wall of a residential complex collapsed on workers who were staying in the tents near the wall, following incessant rains in Pune. The tents were built for the laborers working at a construction site nearby. The compound wall collapsed around 1:45 a.m., Friday night in the Kondhawa area of Pune. The dead includes 10 men, one woman, and four children.
Pune police commissioner K. Venkatesham said that investigation to find out the cause of the wall collapse is in process and also assured that firm action will be taken against those responsible. We will check whether proper permissions were taken and safety measures were followed while doing the construction, said the police commissioner.

However, the district collector of Pune Naval Kishore Ram said that the wall collapsed due to heavy rainfall and negligence of the construction company is being looked into in regard to the incident. Death of 15 people is not a small matter. The people who were killed in the incident were laborers from Bihar and Bengal. The District Collector said that the Government will provide help to the affected.
Police, Fire Brigade and National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) personnel have been rushed to the spot and rescue operation is underway, the police informed.
